OCFW Mini Conf with Lacy Williams

OCFW Mini Conference, April 15th

OKC Christian Fiction Writers will be hosting a one-day Mini Conference with USA Today Bestselling Author Lacy Williams on Saturday, April 15th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Mrs. Williams will speak on:

How to See Trends and Why You Should Be Watching

Editors often say they receive an overload of one type of manuscript during a season of publishing. The Amazon bestseller lists are frequently filled with a glut of similar books. Don’t fall victim to the “author collective unconsciousness”! Stand out from the crowd. This workshop will discuss how to identify trends in fiction as well as in the overall publishing landscape, as well as how to position your books for success (indie or trad).

Indie Publishing 101

Self-publishing can seem overwhelming. Whether you’re a complete newbie or a professional, learn what’s working in the indie publishing world for 2017 in this session that will cover an overview of indie publishing.

The Business of Writing

Whether you are publishing independently or with a traditional publisher, there are certain characteristics that define a professional writer. Learn how to take your writing to the next level by treating your writing like a career, not a hobby.

Fear+Less

What is the number one thing holding you back from achieving your writing dreams? This session will ask you to look beyond your excuses to the heart of the matter. What does God have to say about fear? This session will feature a combination of techniques, Scripture, and action plans to help you overcome.

With a bonus mini-session “Fitness for Writers” taught by Lacy and Luke (her husband), a fitness coach.

The OCFW Mini Conference will be held at Memorial Road Church of Christ, located at 2221 E. Memorial Rd., Oklahoma City, OK, 73013. Registration cost is $50 online and $60 at the door. Lunch will be on your own. For more information, visit http://okcchristianfictionwriters.com or email JJ Johnson at OCFWchapter@gmail.com

. . .

Lacy Williams might be a USA Today bestselling author, but she starts every manuscript the same way you do: with an empty screen and that annoying blinking cursor. She has lots of obstacles, like the four kids age 7 and under that bless her socks off. Thanks to an amazing husband and partner, she has somehow managed to be a hybrid author since 2011, publishing 39 books & novellas. Lacy’s books have been award finalists and have garnered their share of critical reviews, but it’s the occasional fan letter from treasured readers that keeps her writing. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Romance Writers of America, ALLi, and Novelists Inc

OCFW Welcomes Linda Goodnight

OKC Christian Fiction Writers will host NY Times and USA Bestseller, Linda Goodnight on Saturday, March 18th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Mrs. Goodnight will speak on Start Strong, Finish Strong. Mrs. Goodnight’s latest book, The Rain Sparrow, published by HQN Books, was released February 23, 2016.  NY Times and USA Bestseller, Linda Goodnight writes novels to touch the heart as well as to entertain. Her emotional stories of hope have won the RITA, the Carol, the Reviewer's Choice, and numerous other industry awards. February 2017 Meeting

OCFW Welcomes Robin Patchen

OKC Christian Fiction Writers will host award-winning author Robin Patchen on Saturday, February 18, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Ms. Patchen will speak on Small Edits: Big Impact; Literary Devices and Simple Tricks to Improve your Prose. Often the difference between a mediocre writer and a great one lies in a few edits—shuffling a sentence here, choosing a more impactful word there. In this course, she will show us how to dig into some age-old literary devices and see examples of where they have been used with great success. She will also teach us a few simple tricks that make a big impact.

Robin Patchen is one of the authors of 5 Editors Tackle the 12 Fatal Flaws of Fiction Writing, a self-editing resource. She’s a writing coach and multi-published Christian Fiction author. Her first full-length novel won the Lyra Award for Women’s Fiction and was a finalist in the Carol Award. When she’s not writing, Robin is a freelance editor specializing in Christian Fiction. Formerly Assistant Editor for Wayside Press and copyeditor for Serenade Books, she works now as a writing coach and freelance editor, where she partners with novelists at every level, from the greenest beginners to multi-published, award-winning veterans.
