What is OCFW? We are a chapter of the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) that meets in Edmond, OK. We are a group of writers, some published, some seeking publication, who want to glorify God in our writing.

We meet once a month at the Mardel Christian & Education store located at 3300 S. Boulevard in Edmond, OK. Our meetings are on the fourth Saturday of each month. We have a time of fellowship beginning at 12:30 pm and our meetings start promptly at 1 pm.

Our meetings include speakers on a variety of subjects, information on current events in the Christian fiction market, brainstorming, fellowship, and the chance to interact with other writers.

We have a FANTASTIC lineup of speakers for 2010 (see below), and we hope to see you at one or more of our meetings. You are welcome to visit two meetings without placing membership; after the second meeting we ask that you become a member to continue attending.

Membership Drive

Announcing the first-ever OCFW spring membership drive!

The board is asking our members to promote our group through inviting new attendees to our meetings. Ideally, we'd like to see each member refer at least one new member to our chapter.

We’re offering a prize for the member who refers the most new members: $50 toward any writing-relating expense (must be used in 2010). This can include conference fees, books related to craft, contest entry fees, etc.

The membership drive will be from March 1 – May 22 (our May meeting date). In order to get credit for members you refer, they will need to put your name on their membership app as ‘referer’, or if you didn't contact the person directly, they should list where they got the information about our meetings (for example, their local library where you posted a flyer).

We are also offering a special membership deal for students, either college students or high school students. They can receive a discounted membership fee (OCFW discount only - they still have to be an ACFW national member) of $10. They must show a student ID/proof of current enrollment to receive the discount.

For your convenience, we have provided printed flyers and brochures. You can find PDFs of these on separate blog posts, as well as a sample draft of an email you could send out to promote OCFW.

Here is a list of suggested places where you could promote our chapter:

-other writer’s groups/critique groups
-church bulletins
-people you know
-writer’s conferences
-local libraries
-local places: coffee shops, bookstores, community centers
-colleges (UCO, OC, OU, OCU, Rose State, OSU-OKC, other?)
-high schools

The board is very excited about this event and I hope you will be too! Watch for updates on how the membership drive is going.

February Meeting

On Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 OKC Christian Fiction Writers will host award-winning author and speaker Darlene Franklin.

Ms. Franklin recently returned to cowboy (and cowgirl) country - Oklahoma - a move prompted by her desire to be closer to family; her mother, Anita, son Jaran, daughter-in-law Shelley, and three beautiful granddaughters. Her daughter Jolene has preceded her into glory.

Darlene has six books and novellas in print (with eight more on the way) with Barbour Publishing. She has also written devotionals for several previous Barbour collections (most recently, Heavenly Humor for Cat Lovers). Be sure to check out her blog at http://www.darlenefranklinwrites.blogspot.com/

A Rose is NOT a Rose: What Names Reveal About Character: Names may not make a difference in matters of the heart, but they reveal a great deal about your characters. Explore what names say about character, and learn ideas to find just the right names for the people who populate your books.

OCFW meets at Mardel Christian and Education Store (in the back room) loacated at 3300 South Boulevard (on the corner of 33rd St. and Boulevard) in Edmond, OK from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
